Wendell, North Carolina

Spend time in the bustling enclave of Wendell, and you’ll understand how it earned the motto, “Small Town, Big Charm.” All along Main St. and throughout historic downtown Wendell, a designated location on the National Register of Historic Places, private homes and vintage buildings display the architecture of our American heritage. Downtown, an enticing array of local retailers, shops and eateries, plus free Wi-Fi provided by the town, make Wendell fun and easy to explore.

Local events and celebrations are hosted in Wendell throughout the year, like the Wendell Harvest Festival, International Food and Music Festival, Wendell Wonderland and Spring Fling. Find a wine or beer perfect for your taste buds at Whistlestop Bottleshop, or visit the new Wendell Museum for a glimpse into the fascinating history of the town.

The first Thurs. of each month is perfect for a trip to the Wendell Market (May through Nov.)—where you can select fresh fruits and vegetables from local farmers plus other local goods—plus a stop in at Bearded Bee Brewing Company (where you can and absolutely should collect a stamp for your Raleigh Beer Trail Passport).

For the outdoor enthusiast, trek out to Roberston Millpond Preserve where kayakers can navigate through a peaceful hidden gem, or enjoy an afternoon at Wendell Park, where you can get in a round of disc golf, allow the kids to explore the playground, let four-legged friends frolic in the dog park or hit the tennis court before enjoying a picnic for the whole family. If you prefer the golf course, hit the links at Wendell Country Club, an 18-hole course that’s open to the public and includes a fully-stocked pro shop, plus Divots Grill, open for breakfast and lunch seven days a week.
